Overview

SUMMARY: Staff physicians provide services to the clients at CommWell Health.

Responsibilities

 

  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

  1. Provides direct outpatient primary care to patients.
  2. Provide after hours phone consultation for established clinic patients.
  3. Provides back-up and consultation for nursing staff, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, residents, medical students and other students.
  4. Prescribes medication utilizing clinic formulary for outpatients as feasible.
  5. Act as the liaison with medical care resources when referral is needed and the medical director is not available.
  6. Requisitions on and off-site lab and x-ray exams as needed.
  7. Assumes specified duties in the absence of the medical director.
  8. Participates in continuing education activities on- and off-site when appropriate and feasible.
  9. Participates in staff conferences to devise individual patient care plans, to revise and update clinic services, continuing quality improvement program and continuing education as appropriate.
  10. When there are no patients to be attended to, participates in patient related activities.
  11. Participates in Eagle Excellence Activities.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Directly supervises midlevels, students and residents as appropriate.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Graduate of an accredited school of medicine. Completion of residency training.

 

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or Board of Directors. Ability to communicate in Spanish and English to patients and their family members.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply advanced mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

 

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

 

COMPETENCY/SKILL REQUIREMENTS: Competency required in the areas of interpersonal communications, excellent verbal and written skills, and knowledge of credentialing criteria and standards.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  Ability to analyze and critique clinical judgment mid-level providers; ability to manage clinic flow of patients and establish time management principles; ability to perform outpatient procedures; ability to work with volunteer Emergency Rescue squads, ability to articulate instructions to low-income people; bi-lingual (Spanish) highly desirable.

 CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Current medical license to practice in North Carolina. Board Certified in specialty.
